John Legend Memphis Concert reviews
Simply too loud
The show opened thirty minutes late by the band. Their talent, style, versatility, and range are amazing, making their music awesome. It's such good music that it would have been nice to be able to enjoy listening to it. Unfortunately, they were too loud; live concert in an arena expects loud music, but this was beyond that. The music, especially the lyrics, were distorted due to the volume. My father, a big John Legend fan, got up and went outside for popcorn and a drink midway through the show. I could tell from his body language from the get-go that he wasn't enjoying it, which is a shame given how much he was looking forward to it. When you continually contemplate the volume, wondering if it's too loud at times, thinking about the potential damage to your hearing, and physically hurting in your ears from it, you know it's too loud. Loved the opening song of Nobody and the tandem guitars; that was super cool. Just consider lowering it a notch for the next show.
